On site in Ukraine

Impressions from our trip to Ukraine last week. We are committed to transparency and effectiveness in the use of donations made to us. This implies frequent direct coordination with our local partners: Is the aid getting through? Is the equipment working? How have needs changed? In addition to a visit to the paediatric cardiac surgery department at St. Nicholas Hospital in Lviv, which we have been supporting since 2022, we were able to hand over a delivery of 1000 needles for anaesthesia of individual extremities. These were supplied custom-made from overseas for the first time. We support young local anaesthetists in training and use of regional anaesthesia with ultrasound guidance. These safe, effective and resource-saving techniques offer relevant advantages over general anesthesia in a crisis setting, provided adequate equipment is available.
